NCIS NOLA’S CCH Pounder lands major new role after CBS axed drama

Series regular CCH Pounder has officially joined the all-star cast for Netflix’s upcoming biopic, Rustin. The upcoming feature is the actress’s first major film role after portraying Dr Loretta Wade for all seven seasons of the popular NCIS offshoot, NCIS: New Orleans, on CBS.

The NCIS star will star alongside the already announced cast led by Colman Domingo, Chris Rock, Glynn Turman and Audra McDonald.

Rustin will tell the real-life story of gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin (played by Domingo).

The African-American activist began campaigning for equality as early as 1941 and altered the course of American history by organising the March on Washington in 1963.

Pounder is set to portray Dr Anna Hedgeman, a civil rights leader, politician, educator, and writer who was also among the organisers of the march.

She will be coming off her most long-running role to date, having portrayed Dr Loretta Wade in 155 episodes of NCIS: New Orleans.

Fans of the show will no doubt be thrilled to see the actress return to the small screen after the series was pulled off air after seven seasons earlier this year.

The NCIS favourite will join the newly announced cast, which includes I May Destroy You’s Aml Ameen, tipped to play Martin Luther King Jr, and Carra Patterson as Dr King’s wife, Coretta Scott King.

Supporting players also include Michael Potts, Bill Irwin, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Johnny Ramey and Adrienne Warren.
