NCIS LA fans left emotional as season 13 premiere pays tribute to Michele Poulik
NCIS LOS ANGELES has returned for its highly anticipated 13th season, and Sunday night’s premiere episode, Subject 17, paid tribute to a crucial member of the NCIS team
Viewers were left emotional on Sunday evening as the new premiere episode of NCIS: Los Angeles featured a tribute to Michele Poulik before season 13 of the CBS drama got underway. Poulik worked as a set decorator for the NCIS spin-off and passed away following a battle with cancer this August.
Key crew member Michele Poulik was honoured in Sunday night’s new episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, Subject 17.
Poulik was a set decorator for the spin-off from 2009 until she passed away from cancer on August 2, 2021.
The episode’s title card said: “[Michele’s] smile, presence, and laughter, lit up every day.”
She worked on well over 200 episodes of the series, including the 12th season of the show which ran from 2020-21.
As set decorator, Poulik ensured the show’s locations looked as authentic as possible for more than 10 years.
Passing away shortly after the conclusion of season 12, the CBS action-drama took the first opportunity to acknowledge her sad passing in the new premiere.
Fans who tuned in live also made sure to pay their respects after spotting the title card’s touching tribute.
A Twitter user named Lori said: “@NCISLA Sorry for the loss of Michele Poulik.”
And NCIS fan Ashley tweeted: “She did phenomenal work. May she rest in peace.”
“What an awesome lady,” wrote a third user, named Sherry.
“@NCISLA thanks for the dedication to such an awesome person. She will be missed.”
Michele Poulik’s last credit on the series was the 2021 episode, A Tale of Two Igors.
This episode threw newly appointed NCIS agent Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen) in the deep end and also concluded the show’s 12th season.
Meanwhile, operations manager Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) returned, and the team said goodbye to long-running members Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith) and Eric Beale (Barrett Foa).
Poulik’s work outside of the CBS franchise includes television series The Cleaner, Standoff and The Shield.
She was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award back in 1998 for her set work on the TV miniseries From the Earth to the Moon, hosted by Tom Hanks.
The set decorator was well-prepared for her role in CBS’s action-packed series after contributing to several major films throughout the 1990s.
Beginning as an assistant decorator in 1985, she went on to work on classics such as Army of Darkness, Scream and Jean-Claude Van Damme thriller Hard Target.
Agents G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) will return again next week as the latest season gains steam after last night’s thrilling premiere.
NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 continues Sundays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
