Blue Bloods fans complain they ‘can’t wait’ as Donnie Wahlberg confirms massive hiatus

Blue Bloods sadly won’t be back on screens for some time as CBS has confirmed their popular cop drama will be taking a lengthy hiatus over the holidays.

The 13th season of Blue Bloods has presented plenty of challenges for Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck) and his family, and the drama didn’t stop in the latest episode this Friday. Unfortunately, fans of the CBS hit will have to stay patient for the time being as the current season won’t be airing any new episodes until early January.

Many Blue Bloods fans were distraught to learn the series wouldn’t be back for three whole weeks after this week’s episode.

In the eighth instalment of season 13, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) catches up with a blast from the past when he investigates a gang attack.

Meanwhile, Frank and New York Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) butt heads over an off-duty cop’s controversial political statement.

After tuning in for another riveting episode of the NYC crime drama, viewers were taken by surprise by an update from main cast member Donnie.

On his Twitter page, he posted: “It is not the last episode of the season. It’s only the last episode of 2022.

“More new episodes of #BlueBloods will be back in January 2023! That’s about three weeks from now! More season 13 to go!”

Although he assured fans the latest season is far from over, a number of his followers were at a loss as to what they’ll do with their Friday nights now Blue Bloods is off-air.

@Charhimebaugh replied: “I vote for #BlueBloods all year round!!”

“Thank goodness!!! Can’t wait,” Kacey Diaz said, which received love heart emojis from Donnie.

@sylvia_joliet exclaimed: “Oh no! So what are we supposed to do for three weeks, are they going to do any reruns of any old episodes?

“Now I got to figure out what I’m going to do for three weeks on a Friday night, oh well.”

@tweetforNKOTB wrote: “Three weeks feels like forever! Let’s enjoy this last episode of 2022.”

And Angelia Galliger asked: “What are us fans gonna watch for the next three weeks though??”

While @Vroni4tat suggested: “So we have time to binge-watch from season one in the meantime!!”

CBS will still be showing plenty of Blue Bloods during the break, so die-hard fans have plenty of time to revisit some classic episodes.

In the meantime, viewers don’t have a trailer for the midseason premiere just yet, although some first details have been revealed.

Episode nine will be entitled Nothing Sacred and will deal with more tensions within the Reagan family.

A synopsis reads: “Frank and his grandson, Joe Hill (Will Hochman), contend with a grievous insult to the memory of Joe’s father.

“Erin (Bridget Moynahan) and Henry (Len Cariou) work together to bust a scammer targeting the elderly; Eddie’s (Vanessa Ray) captain takes a suspicious interest in her efforts to locate a stolen puppy.”

Blue Bloods season 13 continues Friday, January 6 on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
