Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan created ‘god complex’ on set after telling Kevin Costner ‘stick to acting’
Days after it was announced the series was ending, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan was charged with having a “god complex” on the set of the show.
The 2018 release of the neo-Western movie, which stars Kevin Costner as patriarch John Dutton III and centers on the Dutton family—owners of the largest ranch in Montana—follows their story.
However, after five seasons, it seems there might not be another given the rumors of conflict on site.
It has been reported that Sheridan, 52, and Costner, 68, have occasionally disagreed, with the former being held responsible for conflicts between the cast and crew.
A source has now provided more information regarding what is reportedly taking place behind closed doors.
Certain people in charge of the production developed a God complex,’ they told the Daily Mail.
The insider also alleged that Costner had been left frustrated following his concerns about the direction the series were not taken seriously.
They had apparently been dismissed by Sheridan, who told Costner to ‘stick to acting’, despite the fact he also serves as an executive producer on the series.
‘Kevin will forever be proud of and grateful for Yellowstone and the cast is like family to him,’ the source added.
‘He just felt like Yellowstone is headed in a direction that was not in line with their initial vision and he was met with criticism, including that he should just stick to acting.’
The reports come after looming uncertainty over when cameras will start rolling again for the second half of the latest season, which is airing in two parts.
The first eight episodes of season five were released in the latter half of last year.
Earlier this week the New York Post reported that there had been ‘friction’ between the two, but said it was ‘the same as with any showrunner and a big star-there’s respect, but there’s friction’.
Another insider alleged there was an ego issue on set: ‘Taylor is the star of his show. He’s the most important person on all of his shows.’
But they added they hoped the issues would be resolved because ‘it’s too big a show for things not to be worked out.’
This year Costner won a Golden Globe Award for best actor for his role in the series, however flooding in Santa Barbara kept him from accepting the award in person.
In a video posted to Instagram before the event, he apologised for not being able to attend.
Yellowstone has produced two spin-offs, titled 1883 and 1923, with the latter starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
