NCIS has always had dramatic season finales, and it looks like Season 20’s finale will be no different. Is Torres undercover, in trouble… or both?
The following contains potential spoilers for NCIS Season 20, Episode 21, “Kompromat” and Episode 22, “Black Sky,” airing May 15 and 22, respectively.
For the most part, NCIS Season 20 has had a lot of one-off episodes. The cases, while entertaining, haven’t really been related to each other. The main thoroughfare has been the growing relationship between Jimmy Palmer and Agent Knight. Along with that, there have been several family-centric episodes, where the agents’ family members have been directly involved with cases. Additionally, Agent Parker has continued to settle in as the team’s unquestioned leader and as a friend to Director Vance.
However, it looks like the one-off episodes are coming to an end. With only two episodes left in Season 20, things are about to heat up. There’s a Russian collusion plotline that needs resolving, and fans just received a hint about what’s to come. NCIS has released photos from the finale that put Agent Torres in a precarious situation while teasing a dramatic cliffhanger.
NCIS Season 20 Sends Torres to Prison
NCIS is no stranger to prison stints, as Gibbs was temporarily arrested just before he retired to Alaska. However, sending another agent to prison could be a problem. Via TV Line, NCIS has released a pair of images that placed Agent Nick Torres in prison during the Season 20 finale. He was sporting an orange jumpsuit, and his head was shaved. The obvious assumption is that Torres will be undercover during the episode, but even if that’s the case, he could be in some deep trouble.
As one would assume, the TV Line article was sparse on details, but it made one thing abundantly clear. There’s a massive cliffhanger coming. It’s merely speculation at this point, but with Torres supposedly going undercover, it looks like the episode will be Torres-centric. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be too much of a leap to think that he will be the one affected by the cliffhanger. Maybe he’s looking to get information from the Russian spies that the team put away earlier this season. Whatever the reason, fans will have to wait until Season 21 to see the resolution of the plot.
NCIS Has a History of Dramatic Cliffhangers
It didn’t take long for NCIS to have dramatic season finales. Kate Todd was killed in the Season 2 finale. However, the drama wasn’t enough for NCIS. After Season 2, the series started a trend of cliffhangers. Gibbs left NCIS at the end of Season 3; a bomb exploded in the Navy Yard in Season 5, and Ducky had a heart attack to end Season 9. That wasn’t the end either. Gibbs was shot in Season 12’s finale, and he was nearly blown up in the Season 18 finale. Then, Agent Parker had his own cliffhanger to end Season 19.
With all of those cliffhangers, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Season 20 is going to end with unresolved drama. The only thing that could be a concern is Wilmer Valderrama’s future. He’s signed on to play Zorro in Disney’s Zorro reboot, along with other commitments. So, his future as Torres could be in jeopardy. Hopefully, the Season 20 cliffhanger isn’t setting up his NCIS exit.
NCIS airs Mondays at 9:00 p.m. on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
